2014 HyLee Production and Consignment Auction Results

The 7th HyLee Farm Production and Consignment Auction had 15 consignors bring 26 head to be sold. All of the horses were of great quality and presented in high order. Of the 26 head there were 5 who did not meet their reserve. The total of the auction was $71,100.00. Of the 21 head that sold the average was $3386.00. The Top 5 selling horses averaged $8500.00. Both averages were down some from the 2013 auction.

We had the repeat consignors of Wingait Farm, Oldfield Farm, Rustic View Farm, Tripolgy Morgan Farm, Dan Yoder, Bonnie Anderson, Arcola Farm and HyLee Farm. New consignors came from clients of Lynn and Kathleen Peebles, Melissa Lambrecht and Jonalyn Guinup, and S & D Morgans. We had a nice blend of young horses, broodmares, trail horses, hunt and English pleasure horses. Buyers were active on the phone, the DVAuction internet and live bidding in the house. This year we did not have any Canadian buyers as in 2013.

The auction was staffed with the incredible group who make the auction possible. Bill and Terry Addis and their staff managed the auction; Terryl Smith provided the Preview’s wonderful snacks and the great tasting food for auction day. Doug Irvine read pedigrees and offered valuable notes for the horses going through the auction arena. DVAuction has provided a great venue for non-attending buyers to participate. Preparation for the auction is no small feat and could not be done without the staff of HyLee Farm, with Melanie Jelle being the Auction Coordinator, LaVern Stamplfi in charge of set up and footing, Tasha Smazinski presenting many of the horses with the help of my good friend Tim Coss, and the rest of the HyLee staff.

Topping the auction was a 3-year old gelding from Tripolgy Morgan Farm, GGG Instyle by Mastroianni. He was bred by the late Gary Glover. Kathy Gefke, Tipperary Ridge, purchased him for her daughter, Samee for $12,000.00. Kathy Gefke had her eye on another young western prospect who had 60 days of training by Dan Lynch and presented by Rachel Perrin, HyLee’s Pin Oak Dude, by HyLee’s Rare Flaire, who brought $10,000.00. A wonderful young horse, though only 2-years old who showed incredible promise for the future. Third high selling was a very impressive and bold daughter of Minion Millennium, Flintwood’s Margaret, with Mark Yoder signing the ticket for $9000.00. Fourth high seller was a Bell Flaire daughter, Banbury Hill Belletrist, and fancy-bold hunter to HyLee Farm for $6300.00. Fifth high seller was Bucksnort’s Yellow Eagle, a palomino trail horse from Dan Yoder who sold to Sharon McGann for $5200.00.

We appreciate all who come to sell and to purchase at the auction and everyone who is involved in helping put this auction on. With the downsizing of HyLee Farm’s Production portion of the auction future auctions will depend on committed consignments from outside consignors to continue. HyLee has, in the past consigned a measurable number to the auction. If you are interested in consigning in 2015 please let me know as we would need a minimum of 36 head and can only stall 40 head.

DaBe Grand Bam Bam
(HVK Grand Entrance x LW Promises Kept)

2004 Bay Gelding Stands: 15 Hands

"Bam Bam" is a handsome fellow who is ready for the owner who wants to perfect their riding skills and loves to trail ride. "Bam" has been used in our lesson program and has had a number of riders who have become more advanced in their abilities through the instructors direction and Bam's sensitivity to aids. He was shown saddleseat but prefers hunt and loves to cover the trails. He is unflappable to rustling leaves, deer and wild turkey. He is happy riding alone or with a companion trail rider. He has a nice trot to sit and a very comfortable canter.

Hylee's At Last
(HyLee's Galaxy Seven x HVK Embrace)

2003 Bay Mare Stand: 14:3 Hands

It is only through downsizing that At Last is offered for sale. She is the last producing daughter of Jane Steffenhagen's program. As a young horse she was unbeatable in hand garnering several Grand Championships in hand even as a yearling. I always asked Mom, "when do you want us to start her in harness or saddle?". To which she commented "She doesn't need to do anymore than show in hand to make me happy and she will be a great broodmare." So as the grand matron of HyLee predicted she has proven to be a very good producer and she still has that tremendous trot with extreme hocks and up headed way of going that pleased my mother. She has had 2 colts by HyLee's Rare Flaire who have been athletic and HyLee's Pin Oak Dude was the winner of the North Star Yearling Sweepstakes and also won the Yearling Colt Futurity in 2013. Her foal this year is a filly sired by The Biggest Bang (Born to Boogie x HyLee's Teardrop). This filly reflects strongly her sires side and has her mothers trot. I see this mare's offspring always having her talent and hocks and upheadedness and spark. I feel strongly after breeding her that she will allow the stallion to stamp the foal also with the good things that stallion offers. She is in foal to ZZ Top for 2015. She has always bred easily, doesn't need to be on any drugs, foals easily and is good with her foals. I would wish the new owner to visit with me about her before she leaves.

Armada Hook Line & Sinker
(On Line x Shipyard PT Vibrant Song)

2009 Bay Gelding Stands: 15 Hands

"Simon" is Mr. Personality first off. We then add his Morgan type and good conformation, plus his athletic ability. He has had 4 months of training with Dan Lynch so he is soft, supple, and knows his leg aids well. He can be ridden hunt seat but would by a dynamite fancy Cowboy Dressage mount. His previous owner had started him in harness but we just went right to work finishing his riding skills.

Hylee's Reflection
(ZZ Top x HyLee's Diamond Fantasy)

2013 Bay Filly Should mature at least 15:1 Hands

Someone else besides HyLee will reap the benefits and enjoyment of this yearling filly. She has a strong and predictable future because of the history of her grandam, HVK Black Fantasy and her dam have produced. Sired by ZZ Top, this filly will have good size and an elegant way about her. Her future leans toward the western or hunt. All her prior family has been western or hunt and have gone into Junior Exhibitor/Amateur families. She is a full sister to high selling yearling colt last year, HyLee's Contender. She will follow in the names of the following relations of which she is a reflection of: HyLee's Fanflaire, Faircrest Rare Edition, HyLee's Goldmine, HyLee's Take Command, Something's Got to Give, Faircrest Dark Night, Faircrest Bewitched, to mention a few. She will also be a great producer for you as has all the mares on her dam's side.

Hylee's Pin Oak Dude
(HyLee's Rare Flaire x HyLee's At Last)

2012 Bay Stallion Stands: 14:3 Hands

Pin Oak Dude is a horseman's vision of what you would like your dream horse to be. He is handsome, correct, very smart and trainable. He exhibits the Morgan characteristic of being very versatile. If you want Western, Hunt, English Pleasure, reining or a breeding stallion, take a look at him. He has extreme athletic ability and a powerful rear end. He is sired by the Noble Flaire son, HyLee's Rare Flaire who is out of a Serenity Flight Time daughter, and out of the winning HyLee's Galaxy Seven daughter, HyLee's At Last. In 2012 Dude won the NCMA Yearling Colt Futurity and also the highly competitive Yearling Sweepstakes. He is an image of his father. If you want a horse to be proud of and want to do a lot of disciplines, he is the one. He has been long lined but not hitched and will have about 45 days of riding by Dan Lynch by sale time.

Hylee Optimyztic
(Mizrahi x HyLee's Tearjerker)

2013 Bay Filly Should mature at least 15:2

This filly comes from a serious line of champions! Sired by Mizrahi--not enough adjectives to describe what he has done, and out of HyLee's Tearjerker, who has had 2 Champions by HyLee's Galaxy Seven. Her grandam, HyLee's Teardrop, produced HyLee's Dan Right, HyLee's Blood Sweat & Tears, HyLee's Showtime, HyLee's Hill Street Blues, HyLee's Lock n Load, HyLee's The Biggest Bang, and HyLee's Zerelda James. This filly will hit the jackpot for her new owner. Downsizing forces me to sell this big, strong, talented filly. So with her will go a part of my heart. She should mature about 15:2 at least and if someone takes his or her time she will garner a World Championship in the future. I predict English Pleasure early on and possible Park when she has fully matured. Hence she is named for all people in the horse world, we're all "optimistic!"

Hylee's Bushmill
(HyLee's Rare Flaire x HyLee's Dance Tune)

2010 Bay Gelding Stands: 16 Hands

HyLee's Bushmill or "Whiskey" per his barn name, is a four-year old gelding who stands close to 16 hands. He looks a lot like his grandfather, HVK Fancy Dan with a touch of Noble Flaire through his sire, HyLee's Rare Flaire. He is a very handsome guy, full bodied with a great length of leg, a pretty head and eye, and cute little ears. He has a nice balanced way of moving and with his size is able to really cover the ground when in motion.

Whiskey was shown successfully in hand as a yearling, winning the Yearling Colt Open and Futurity at North Star in 2011. The last couple of years he has been in t raining to prepare him for a continued show career. We started him slowly because he continued to grow ….and grow! As a three-year old he was broke to drive and has now been started under saddle. He will have 45 days of additional training under saddle at the time of the sale. I believe he will excel as a very competitive hunter, as his full brother, HyLee's Encore and full sister, Hylee's Danzig, or the western pleasure or as a western dressage prospect.

Dominic You
(Troutbrook Alexander x Love To Command)

2003 Chestnut Gelding Stands: 15 Hands

"Opie" is a 13-year old gelding out of Love to Command, the last producing daughter of the great Waseeka's In Command. Earlier in his career he was professionally trained for the show arena. Driving was not a strength, but he did very well under saddle. Opie was shown successfully under saddle in English Pleasure classes at North Star Morgan Americana in 2011, and in the Hunter Pleasure classes at Morgan Masterpiece in 2013. He did well in his show career and was often in the ribbons. His t rue calling, and what he likes, and does the best however, is the life of a t rail horse. He is alert on the trail, walks right out, has no problems with obstacles and water and generally just has an all around good time with his rider. He is a horse that likes to bond with a particular individual and is looking for his own person to take with him on future trail rides.

Rush River Cantata
(Century Nightmusic x Lookaway's Savannah)

2009 Chestnut Mare Stands: 14 Hands

Rush River Cantata aka "Connie" was first shown as a weanling in 2009 at the North Star Breeders Sweepstakes. Connie is good with the farrier and vet, stands well in cross ties, is easy to clip and loads well in the trailer. She has been started under saddle, but does not drive. This summer she spent 60 days with Robin Secrist adapting to the life of a trail horse. She climbed the huge bluffs along Lake Pepin, learned how to go through water and over obstacles and how to stand quietly while tied. She is smart, confident and fearless as she moves down the trail. Connie would be suitable for a confident youth rider to join her on the trails. At the time of sale she will have an additional 45 days of work under saddle.

In addition, Connie is roy ally bred. Her top line traces back to Stonecroft Masquerade, and her dam's grandsire was the great stallion, The Buckey. She inherits her beauty from her sire, Century Nightmusic, and his dam Appleton Baronness. Conformationally correct, she has the potential to make an excellent broodmare.

Gossip Girl
(Serenity Masterpiece x AFF Savannah)

2006 Bay Mare Stands: 15:2 Hands
Gossip Girl is by the grand stallion, Serenity Masterpiece, and out of the Cedar Creek Harlequin mare, AFF Savannah. She is a truly royally bred mare. Her first foal was a filly by Town Assets called "Patrick's Girl". This was a special mare as she won the World Championship 3-Year Old Hunter Pleasure at the 2013 Grand Nationals with Kathleen Peebles of Waterford Farm. We have had 2 stretchy bay foals from her since and decided this year to breed her back to this golden cross, so we could have another foal by the stallion, Town Assets. The foal she is carrying is sure to be a big, beautiful and talented foal for her next owner. Gossip Girl is at the prime age of 8 years old and that means she has plenty of fertile years to produce more wonderful babies. She has been easy to get in foal, very healthy, easy to handle, and is an exceptional mother. This mare gets along with other horses well, and has been an easy keeper in the field. You will find that this mare will be one of the sweetest mares to be around, and will love attention and people of all ages. If you want a well-bred broodmare, who is kind and easy to manage, Gossip Girl is the one.

Aerie Meadow High Roller
(SYP High Definition x Mantic Angelina)

2011 Bay Gelding Stands: 14:2 Hands
Aerie Meadow High Roller, or "Roger" as we call him, is a beautiful 3-Year old bay gelding by the multi-World Champion SYP High Definition and out of the beautiful mare, Mantic Angelina. This colt has wonderful qualities already noticeable at his young age. Physically he has refined features, good conformation and that beautiful Morgan head and expressive eye we really like to see. He has been a very easy horse to train. Roger was shown in hand by an amateur as a yearling, he took to driving as a 2-year old like a champ, and has been riding this year in a similar easy-going manner. We learned right away that he was going to be an easy horse to bridle and motion would not be a problem for him. This is evident when you watch him in the ring. This year Roger has been ridden in the English pleasure division in two shows, with several blues to his name. He clearly has natural motion and loves to go to work every day. Another quality this gelding possess is that he has an abundance of energy and forward motion. He goes and goes, whether he is being driven or ridden, and he does both jobs very well. We think he will only get s stronger as he matures. This horse is a good match for those who appreciate he beauty and stamina, for a fun horse for your family, or to show, he is ready to do the job.

Bucksnort's Yellow Eagle
(Bessia's Black Eagle x Goldie Locks)

2008- Palomino - Gelding
Buck is a 6-year old Palomino gelding. He is very well trained to ride and drive. Whether you do it once a week or once a year he will always be the same. He is quiet and dependable enough for a beginner. Everyone knows that.
